What do children watch the most on TV? That’s right! They watch cartoons. So little girls everywhere grow up watching and believing the things they see on TV. On International Women’s Day we celebrate the female cartoon character’s who teach women to be strong, powerful and to break the stereotype.
Mystique, X-Men
She had a tender side to her, but boy! She could scare the living hell out of the toughest of men, with her intense fighting skills, which came as a package with her power of transforming into anyone.
Wonder Woman, DC Comics
Well, well. When we say kickass females we cannot forget her! She was the coolest one who fought villains alongside Batman and Superman, and looked as sultry as ever in her costume, not caring a hoot about who was checking her out.
Powerpuff Girls
Fighting crime trying to save the world, here they are just in time, The Powerfpuff girls. Well, these three certainly could always be there whenever the Mayor called! Always ready to save the world, though they were school going small and cute, they meant business when they thrashed villains twice their size to save the city they loved.
Granny from Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries
She certainly taught that you don’t need to be young, whole, and equipped with superpowers, to be a hero. You can be one with a sharp brain which fails to age with the body. We salute this truly badass Granny who not solved tedious neighbourhood mysteries, but whacked Sylvester around, whenever he pounced on Tweety.
Velma, Scooby Doo
Though she was no beauty, Velma had brains that could provide an analytical solution for the most complicated of mysteries. If there is anything that we learned from the Scooby Doo toons then it was the importance of being learned because through Velma’s detailed and step by step critical analysis of how the crime would have taken place.
Wilma, Flintstones
If you thought being a homemaker was an easy task, wait till you meet Wilma Flintstone of the stone age. She keeps the tummy of hubby happy, has a baby daughter turning naughtier day by day, a baby dinosaur who always wants to play, and she does it all with a beautiful smile, as they mean the world to her. She is a superwife, and a supermom and taught us that home makers work just as hard and deserve just as much respect.
Mulan
A Disney character who proves that not all princesses are sugary and nice. Some are spice and they are darn cool too. She is different from the other dainty daisies of Disney castle in the sense that she toughens up and joins the army, on her father’s behalf, disguising herself as a boy Ping. Pretty badass!
Burka Avenger
If a woman makes a burka her costume to avenge the injustice, it indeed is too cool to be missed from a list which is dedicated to super woman of fiction. Yes, she is a recent addition to the world of female fiction comic characters, that too, from Pakistan. Wicked! We are loving it!
