The future is electric it seems! EVs have been around for a very long time but their time seems to have come – for real. Hardly a month goes by without some or other electric vehicle launch being in the news. Not only is Tesla, the most desirable EV brand launching in India, but we also have a lot of vehicle manufacturers now offering electric car options:

10 long range EVs from Tata

The Tata Nexon is already seen quite commonly on Indian roads; with models ranging from 14 lakhs to about 16.65 lakhs. The Tata Tigor EV is another option priced lower than the Nexon. Recently, Tata launched the Xpres-T electric sedan that comes in two range variations: with the 213 km and 165 km options. The vehicle will have dual airbags, automatic transmission, ABS and EBD as standard. Tata Altroz EV will have a 500 km driving range and Tata Punch EV is the upcoming micro-SUV. It is also announced that within the next five years, Tata will be adding ten other long-range electric vehicles to their portfolio of electric vehicles.

Mahindra EVs

The eKUV100 from Mahindra was previewed recently and is to be launched in 2022. The driving range will be 150 km and the price will be upward of Rs. 9 lakh; expected to be the most economical EV in the Indian market. The eXUV300 is also in the works, and is expected to come out in 2023. Little is known about this vehicle except for the fact that it will have a range of 300+ km per charge.

Honda EV announcements

Honda has announced the launch of two EVs, the e:NS1 and e:NP1 models in China, based off the Honda E platform. These will be subcompact crossovers. The Honda HR-V will offer a 500 km range and a fun, exhilarating drive quality. However, it is not clear what the company’s plans are to launch outside of China.

BMW EV

The BMW i3 will be a high roof hatchback and the first mass produced zero emission car from the brand. This is expected to launch soon and will carry a price tag that will be in the region of a crore up. The vehicle is expected to go 245 km per charge.

Tesla

The Tesla Model 3 is reportedly undergoing testing at this time; with ground clearance posing significant challenges for the low slung car. This EV goes from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds and has a 353-mile range. The Tesla Model Y is expected to have better ground clearance and people will be able to choose between 5 and 7 seater configurations of this crossover SUV.
