As is the case with all Indian disasters; natural and man-made, it is usually the Armed Forces and the National Disaster Relief Force who are looked upon to provide the quickest, most effective and selfless aid, to those in need. In the recent Chennai floods, when water-logging paralysed normal functioning of the city, prevented trains, planes and automobiles from plying, these unnamed heroes quickly got into the act to provide assistance wherever required.
Teams of the NDRF, the coastguard, various teams of the army, several naval teams, aircrafts of the IAF such as the MI-17s and Chetaks were pressed into service to bring succor to those devastated by the floods. Naval warships carrying small boats, divers and other equipment moved to Chennai, stranded people were evacuated, food packets and other essentials were air dropped where most needed.
Here civilians are being rescued from flooded areas in and around Chennai.
Boat, dinghy, chopper or on foot…
…Our soldiers do whatever is needed, whenever it is needed to bring aid to the needy.
The flooding was so bad that people were stranded on higher floors of buildings with no way to get down.
Army personnel in a dingy navigate the flooded streets of the city, carrying out rescue and relief operations.
People in this inundated area look up in hope at relief coming their way.
In Mudichur near Tambaram, boats rescued more than a thousand stranded families.
The elderly and those in need of medical assistance are given special consideration.
When the situation is this grim, the gray chopper on the horizon can appear like the angel of mercy.
Rescue is provided by whatever means possible, always putting the innocent first.
These majestic giants of the IAF, the C-17s brought aid to the needy, which was sent by road from other states.
Hurrah for our forces, and a big thank you!
