This year the IPL auction was even more interesting than usual – this time around, we have ten teams in the fray and not just 8 as before (except 2011 when there were ten teams). This year will be the 15th edition of the competition and will have two new teams apart from Chennai Super Kings (defending champions), Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
This year we will also have the Gujarat Titans in the fray.
This squad will be captained by K L Rahul.
The recently concluded IPL 2022 auction had some surprises, some disappointments and triggered the usual blizzard of memes.
Ishan Kishan, wicketkeeper-batsman was acquired for Rs 15.25 crore by MI, the highest price for this season
Deepak Chahar went for 14 crores, the second-highest price this season - not a bargain, thought some.
This was another high ticket acquisition by KKR for Rs. 12. 25 crores.
Some thought that the acquisition of West Indian player Shimron Hetmyer by Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 8.5 crores was not a good idea.
The ever-witty Wasim Jaffer thought that David Warner going for a lower-than-expected price was like a Sarojini Nagar bargain.
Some thought so
Faf Du Plessis would be a huge loss to the team, thought others.
They expected more for their team from the bidding wars.
Fans have a lot of dearly held beliefs of their own – because cricket fans usually think of themselves as experts, not just fans.
The auction saw the usual bidding wars.
When lineage and privilege matter – just the name is enough!
...Thought this
Fans of Suresh Raina were emotional that he remained unsold.
This was a betrayal of the player they thought --- particularly by CSK.
While IPL is wildly popular among cricket fans, some people find the mix of players of different nationalities in the same team is still a little confusing. Seeing the interesting mix of teams after the auction, cricket fans are looking forward to IPL 2022.
