The IPL 2021 final is finally here. After all the calculations, the big exits and big announcements, it will be Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in the final. KKR narrowly beat Delhi Capitals to reach the finals. And remember that old Mauka Mauka ad? That’s back in anticipation of more T20 cricket ahead
But those hopes were dashed.
Try, try till you (don’t) succeed. KKR won the toss and fielded first.
It was a modest score of 135 for 5. Shikhar Dhawan made 36 off 39 and Shreyas Iyer made 30; the only two batsmen to reach the 30 run mark.
He was the most successful bowler, taking two wickets.
Openers Shubman Gill (46 off 46) and Venkatesh Iyer (55 off 41) gave the team a great start.
Ventakesh Iyer impressed a lot of people through the tournament. He was also the man of the match.
KKR skipper Eoin Morgan failed to impress.
In the end it was Rahul Tripathi who hit a six to take his team over the finish line with just one ball to spare.
Ravi Ashwin’s final over was great for DC fans – until it wasn’t.
Skipper Rishabh Pant would have been hopeful with Ashwin bowling so well in the last over.
Six runs were needed in the last two balls but Rahul Tripathi delivered for KKR.
DC fans would be disappointed
Cricket fans will probably take refuge in the old cliché – my team may have lost but cricket won today etc.
DC topped the IPL table for much of the duration of the tournament.
KKR, who seemed iffy for the playoffs for a while managed to steal a march on the table topper team.
KKR take on CSK in the final at Sharjah. But cricket lovers have more to look forward to: the T20 World Cup stars soon, and there is an India Pakistan T20 match on 24 October. This Mauka Mauka ad has been resurrected to make this announcement.
