IPL 2017 Opening Ceremony, First Match and More

The promised spectacular opening ceremony of the 10th IPL fell rather short of expectations. The first match of this, the 10th season of the world’s biggest cricket league (and the 6th biggest sports league in the world) the IPL fared somewhat better. Here is everything you wanted to know if you missed Day One of Vivo Indian Premier League 2017.

The legends were felicitated

Indian cricket legends – Virender Sehwag, V V S Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar were felicitated and also did a lap of honour perched on golf carts. Rahul Dravid was also to be felicitated but could not be there because of his commitments to the Delhi Daredevils Team.

The captains signed the MCC Spirit of Cricket

Each of the team captains signed the spirit of cricket bat. By this, they pledged to play hard but also to uphold the spirit of the game and to pledge allegiance to the MCC’s Spirit of Cricket campaign. A visual of this was beamed.

There was Amy Jackson’s act

British born model and actor Amy Jackson put up a dance show along with a large troupe of dancers and some visual props. She danced to some popular Bollywood numbers such as sara zamana, kala chashma and so on, but the act did not exactly enthuse. Though Jackson did her best to infuse some high octane energy to the performance, there was really nothing new or exciting here.

And then the game started

The first game was soon underway between the home team of Hyderabad headed by David Warner and RCB led by Shane Watson in the absence of Virat Kohli. RCB won the toss and elected to field.

Yuvraj showed he was happy to be part of IPL10

Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a big total of 207 runs losing just 4 wickets. This was due in large part to Yuvraj Singh’s knock of 62 runs of just 27 balls. RCB were unable to take up the challenge and were dismissed for 172; letting the home team romp home with the first win of the season.
