The tenth edition of the Indian Premier League is now in full swing. Yesterday saw the most one sided match of IPL 2017 so far, brought us welcome news of the possible return of Virat Kohli and continued to make us laugh and marvel at the sometimes funny, sometimes bizarre tweets. Here are some highlights, headlines and tweets from and about the IPL:
In match no. 9 of IPL T20’s tenth edition, Delhi Daredevils took on Rising Pune Supergiants at their home ground at the Maharashtra Cricket Association's International Stadium, Pune. RPS won the toss and opted to field. Zaheer Khan helmed the DD side and Ajinkya Rahane was captain for RPS in the absence of Steve Smith. Many were surprised that M S Dhoni was not captain in his absence.
The Trivandrum boy came on at the fall of the first wicket in the second over and proceeded to score 102 in just 62 balls, an innings studded with 8 boundaries and 5 sixes with a strike rate of over 161. He was instrumental in propelling his team to a huge total and in setting the opposing team a target of 206 runs to achieve.
RPS were dismissed for just 108. DD won by 97 runs, the highest margin so far. Sanju Samson was man of the match for his performance. Skipper Zaheer Khan picked up three wickets, the highest number for his team.
It was their second match and their first win in the competition so far. With this, DD move to third spot in the points table and RPS to the 7th spot on the list. GL still languishes at the bottom and SRH still rules the roost.
This is good news not just for RCB fans, but for all cricket lovers who were missing the swashbuckling Virat Kohli and his pyrotechnics on the field. The RCB skipper posted updates on his Instagram that indicated his return. “Can't wait to get back onto the field. Almost there now... 14th April” said his update.
Harsh Goenka, earned himself a world of trouble for this tweet. For the record he is the brother of Rising Pune Supergiant owner Sanjiv Goenka and the reactions were swift and sharp.
Many made sure that Goenka got his comeuppance for speaking against their Captain Cool.
