High school students had been on tenterhooks for a while – in particular students of classes X and XII who will be sitting for their board exams. When will board exams be held; will they be held on schedule in February-March or will they be held later? What impact will this have on the next academic year? Also is the board exam date sheet out?
The union cabinet minister for education had announced that the announcement about board exams would be made on the last day of the year.
Some wanted the exams to be held as per schedule since postponements would impact schedules of subsequent competitive exams. Others wanted mass promotions of class ten and twelve students. Yet others wanted postponement of exams to May.
The Minister announced that the CBSE exams for classes X and XII will be held in May-June 2021. It was also clarified that the board exams would not be held online.
Students will get their exam results by 15th July, it was announced.
There were some who felt delighted at the postponement.
Some (probably mistakenly) believed that this would give them time for better preparation for the exam.
Some students are worried that their future prospects are now in jeopardy since the delay may impact college enrollments and options for study abroad.
Students studying for state board exams also wanted similar postponements.
The announcement gave some students a sense of purpose – to quit wasting time and start studying.
Many students are now getting into the study mode.
Soon after the announcement that the class X and XII board exams would be held in May-June 2021, this alleged date sheet was circulating on social media. However, the PIB fact-check Twitter handle clarified that the ‘date sheet’ circulating on social media is was fake. The exam date sheet is yet to be announced and will be done soon.
