Some Tips to Beat the Heat – This Bihar Teacher Sings It Out

Right now I am deeply envious of people living in places like Bangalore where it has been raining recently because I happen to be sweltering in Delhi's relentless heat. Bengaluru has splendid weather all around the year while Delhi - and all of North India barely experience about four months of clement weather: October-November and February-March. This time even March was miserably hot, so is it any wonder that this Bihar teacher singing a song about escaping the heat has gone viral?

Don’t go out

Stay indoors. Hot winds are starting to blow and the earth seems to be burning. Use a parasol and drink water. Don’t come to school on an empty stomach; eat cucumber and muskmelon. Cover your face, drink lime water keep yourself safe indoors, and don’t go out. The rendition may not be very tuneful, but that is sound advice from the teacher and the kids can be seen clapping dutifully

Someone claimed to recognise him

It is not clear whether this is in fact a teacher from a school in Darbhanga, or whether his name is what is claimed in this tweet. However, some sources say that the teacher is Baidyanath Rajak from Samastipur.

Appreciation

The teacher was seen to be doing a great job; dedicated to educating kids not just getting them to study by rote

Essential learning

The teacher is teaching kids how to avoid heatstroke in a simple and enjoyable way; the singing will make it more likely that kids will actually remember his advice.

People noticed this

We see in the video that the clapping kids are dressed neatly in their uniforms, but are seated on the ground. Clearly, this school is not equipped with desks and chairs for students to sit on. All that these kids seem to have is a blackboard and an admittedly enthusiastic teacher.

Someone pointed this out

How do we have lemon water, Master Saheb? The humble nimbu is so expensive these days.

Someone noticed this

The teacher has a couple of bottles of water strung up around his neck. The tweeple noticed and thought that the teacher should receive something for this brand endorsement.

Well done, Guruji!

People were very appreciative of the teacher singing this simple but memorable song to tell kids about sunstroke and its prevention. In fact, that simple tune is rather too memorable. Na jaana na jaana is going to be my earworm for the foreseeable future.
