Actor Anushka Sharma attracted the ire of the Fashion Police when she sported what could be described as extreme-distressed jeans for the promotion of When Harry Met Sejal. This is hardly the first time that celebrities have become fashion victims in the misguided quest to appear as fashion forward style icons. Distressed jeans have been really popular for a while now…one really wonders why!
She posted this picture of hers sporting extreme-distressed jeans on Instagram and her look was described as “epic fashion failure”, drab, weird and so on.
It beats me why distressed jeans is even a thing (apparently they are supposed to show off your chilled out, rock ‘n roll attitude) but Bollywood seems to love that ripped, tattered, torn look. And there appears to be a competition for who has the most raggedy, tattered, barely there jeans.
Obviously the guys also want to show off their chilled out, rock ‘n roll attitude; ergo we frequently see Shah Rukh Khan in jeans distressed to various points as well as Salman Khan occasionally rocking the ripped look.
One did not really have Twinkle Khanna down as a fashion victim; she seems altogether more sensible. But there she is flaunting the ripped look… for some much needed ventilation in the grim Mumbai heat perhaps?
To the otherwise beautifully turned out Deepika Padukone, in this instance we can only say, what were you thinking woman! Even without the distressing that is an excessively strange outfit!
There is the talented B town fashionista… while we like that cute Tee, couldn’t she have worn jeans that weren’t…. incomplete!
One could be really mean and say “don’t try so hard!” or one could be even meaner and say “stick to the traditional outfits sistah!”.
And here we have Prinkanya Chopra in ripped jeans. And distressed jeans. And… a repeat offender here!
And there we have Shahid Kapoor – another repeat offender… with the jeans as well as the hair… what is up with that gravity defying hair!
...Of the Fashionable kind, here is Ranveer Singh. Any mention of out-there fashion in Bollywood would be incomplete without this guy. Those are his distressed jeans and that is his… er, shirt!
