Most schools in the North will end the last academic year today, some next Friday. Before school begins again, there is a two week period for taking short vacations and we have the perfect hilly escape options. While Nanital, Manali and Mussorie have become obvious choices, here is a fresh list of beautiful and still hidden hill stations which will leave you mesmerized with their charming elegance and pleasant weather.
1. Chikhaldara, Satpura Range, Maharashtra
Located 100 kms from Amravati and 750 kms from Mumbai, Chikhadara is a hidden paradise, with a wildlife museum and the Gawilghur Fort being its main attractions. There is even a tiger sanctuary here where you can meet the big cats.
2. Yelagiri, Western Ghats, Tamil Nadu
A hidden hill station that hasn’t got the tourism push it deserves, Yelagiri can be the poster child for natural beauty and serenity. The boat ride at the Pungnoor artificial lake, in particular, is a highlight that one cannot miss. To reach here, one would have to take a train or bus from Jolarpettai Junction.
3. Shimoga, Western Ghats, Karnataka
This hill station is the home of the colossal Jog Falls and some ancient temples with significant mythological importance. A sight to behold, you can reach Shimoga via a train or bus.
4. Idukki, High Range District, Kerala
One of the most beautiful districts of South India, Idukki happens to be one of the most underrated places in India. Reaching here is an experience in itself as the hairpin shaped turns will make for a thrilling ride.
5. Chopta, Garhwal Himalayan Range, Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand, The Land of the Gods, is home to many amazing hill stations. But Chopta has become increasingly popular as it serves to be the best place for trekking enthusiasts.
