What Are The Bollywood's Cultural Stereotypes That Annoy Us So Much

Bollywood still can't get over with some of the cliched cultural stereotypes even after many filmmakers have tried to bring about some change. They have been constant in depicting a particular theme in its own way.  While Delhi is all about power, Mumbai is one busy city that never sleeps, Punjab is all about parties and Rajasthan, all about lavish weddings! And South Indians? They're all Madrasis who speak Hindi with a funny accent! That's the power of cliched stereotyping at the hands of Bollywood!

1. Mehmood In Padosan

From this cult classic to 2 States, Bollywood has not evolved even a bit to stereotype "Madrasis"! All of them will be Brahmins who wear lungis and speak Hindi in a funny accent with "Aiyyo" all the time! Check it out in this movie!

2. The White Backup Dancers

Pick any raunchy song of any Bollywood movie and you'll definitely spot white backup dancers grooving to the tunes behind the leading actors. Why? Well, because, they're "readily available to expose themselves". You won't find any logic there, but still, it adds to the cliched mindset of people!

3. Aakri Pasta from Housefull Franchise

Chunky Pandey, who plays an Italian man, assumes the name, "Aakhri Pasta" as if Pasta is another definition of Italy! To make the cultural stereotyping a bit lazier, all he speaks with his exaggerated Italian accent are the words like 'señorita' and 'gracias', which are of course Spanish!! But, well, cliched!

4. The Chini, Nepali and Japani Confusion

We belong to the same continent as the other three countries, Nepal, Japan and China. We share our boundaries with Nepal and China and have good economic relations with Japan, but sadly, we do not know a bit about their cultures. So we have formed our own cliches.

5. The North Vs South Debate

This never ends in Bollywood. Part of the same country, we share the feeling of patriotism and belongingness towards India, but still, the cliched differences are apparent even on the celluloid screens, every time they try to depict the two of them together.

6. The Punjabi's Ki Jaan

From DDLJ to movies like Jab We Met, 2 States and even Baar Baar Dekho, the depiction of Punjabis have not even a bit evolved. They eat, they drink, they dance and they party and most importantly, they have a pretty good fortune with which they manage to party all the time! Cliched much?
