“You get used to someone being there for you, being your best friend, you have feelings. Then they just leave. You feel empty.“
Losing a friend is much more painful than loosing a romantic relationship but one of the hardest truths to accept as you get older is that not all friendships last forever. In fact, most of them don’t. If you’re lucky, you’ll have one, two, or maybe a handful of close friends that stick by your side until the very end. Here are some signs which show that your ‘close friend’ is now just a friend :
1. They moved away and didn’t leave you a number to call
Your best friend has all of a sudden moved away and he didn’t even leave a number, address or e-mail that you could reach him/her at.
2. They ignore your calls
Your so called best friend has all of a sudden stopped taking your calls or doesn’t take them as often as she used to.You leave numerous messages on her answering machine, but still, she does not return your call.
3. They no longer smile as much when they are with you
Do you remember the good old days? When your best friend smiled instantly when you came into the room? Now, they don’t even smile, let alone do the friendship handshake the two of you invented back in school.
4. They have a new group of friends
I guess he’s the type that believes in with the new and out with the old, because if he has a new group of friends and has a new “best friend,” then chances are he no longer wants to be with you.
5. When you talk it’s awkward
When you talk to her on the phone, you do not feel like you are talking to someone you know. You feel that you are talking to someone that does not want to be spoken to.
6. You often get jealous of each other
Jealousy can be just as damaging when it’s doled out passive aggressively, so don’t think that the overt, sabotage-like actions are the only signs. If you find that you’re supporting each other less or not truly listening to each other when you’re sharing important feelings
7. You don’t “do nothing” together anymore
You can’t remember the last time the two of you just sat on your couch, eating the entire contents of your refrigerator, and watching reruns of bad TV shows. That basically used to be your entire life. Other activities were merely annoying obligations that you begrudgingly did in between marathon co-lounging sessions, but her butt imprint on your couch is already starting to fade.
