Did you know that Titanic II, an ocean liner which is being built and constructed exactly like its namesake is already on the cards, after, of course, repairing the flaws that the original Titanic had? The ship’s intended sail date has been postponed to 2018, and to be honest, we can’t wait to watch it go sail.

For those who grew up in the nineties, the Titanic was a part of our history lessons and was also the epitome of romance and tragedy, a moving story which had everyone in tears. The story of Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson who met for the first time and fell in love on the Titanic but were separated in life to meet again in death. While we wait for the ship, her some fascinating facts about the movie.

Both Kate and Leonardo were fairly nervous about the significant scene where Jack has to paint Rose. To make things less awkward, Kate flashed a bit of herself to Leonardo, the first time they met! Crafty!

Jack Dawson Sketching

Preparing in advance

The hand sketched Rose, is actually that of James Cameron, who was an excellent sketch artist. Sigh, and all the while we had been dreaming of those perfect hands belonging to the ever-so-handsome Jack Dawson.

James Cameron Sketch

The real artist is James Cameron

Tom Cruise was almost considered for the role of Jack Dawson. 20th Century Fox even insisted on Brad Pitt. Cameron, however, had his eyes set on Leonardo as his Jack, and we cannot be more thankful to him for that.

Madonna had been considered for playing the role of Rose, and we are just thanking our stars that things did not work out and we got the perfect Rose, in Kate Winslet.

The last scene of the movie, which is a dream sequence of the elderly Rose, supposedly after she has passed on in her sleep, has Jack and Rose meeting on the Grand Staircase of the Titanic, yet again. The clock then reads 2.20 a.m., which was the exact time at which the Titanic sank.

We all have seen and wept for the elderly couple that was shown embracing each other on a bed while the ship was sinking, ready to die in each other’s arms. This was inspired from the real passengers of the Titanic, Ida and Isidor Strauss, who were the owners of Macy’s department store, and perished on the ship.

There was a real J. Dawson (Joseph Dawson), who was among the many who perished on the maiden voyage of the ill-fated ship. His grave is one of the most visited ones, which might be attributed to his famous namesake character.

Kate Winslet got pneumonia while shooting for the movie, and almost had to quit production due to several health issues that emanated from the constant staying in the cold water for the shoot.

The reel Titanic cost way more than the real Titanic, even after the latter’s cost was adjusted to consider inflation.

Let’s hope that the Titanic II gets launched soon, and has a very successful maiden voyage. As for Jack and Rose, may their spirits always be around us.
