Vocal supporter of the current government, Anupam Kher has been working on the film project that tells us the story of the former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Shooting for the film called The Accidental Prime Minister is now wrapped up. Working on the story and playing Dr. Manmohan Singh seems to have made Anupam Singh rather more kindly disposed towards someone whose politics he is obviously opposed to.
The movie is based on the book of the same name by Sanjay Baru, political commentator and analyst. Earlier there was the apprehension that the movie’s release would clash with that of Zero, however this is no longer the case. The biographical political drama directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, produced by Bohra Bros. Ashoke Pandit and written by Mayank Tewari will release on 7th December 2018.
Referring to the boipic as one of his most cherished films, Kher also tweeted this video of himself as Dr. Manhoman Singh doing a fair impression of Dr. Singh’s soft-spoken tones. In the tweet he also said “history will not misjudge you”.
Kher also spoke about having reservations about doing the film to begin with and then feeling as though he had misjudged Dr. Singh after having lived the role for a year. He hoped that he would be able to have a cup of tea with Dr. Singh after he had watched the film.
Kher’s look in the film is very authentic. His acting abilities are evident in the way that he has managed to recreate Singh's characteristic soft voice, his body language and mannerisms.
The supporters of Dr. Singh are many: those who admire his gentle nature, erudition, his policies and his style of governance in the ten years that he was India's Prime Minister.
The supporters of the current PM are many more in number and far more vocal. It was pointed out by many of the Tweeple, that supporters of the current dispensation still see fit to blame the former government for every problem facing the country even after 4½ years at the helm.
Kher has in the past criticized and attacked Dr. Singh and his government quite frequently. People are looking to see whether the film will be fair to the former PM. “My all respect for you as an Artist would be lost if this movies tries to mock Dr. Manmohan Singh in any way.” Said another tweet. We will all be watching closely come December 7th.
