Avengers Infinity War is about to be released and fans are delirious on a cocktail of nervous anticipation and excitement. It’s big, it’s huge, all the superheroes come together for the first time (at least 22 they say). Fans want to know what’s going to happen, but paradoxically, they have a pathological fear of spoilers as well. First day first show tickets are currently rarer than hen’s teeth and so two days to go and here is what’s going on with Avengers Infinity War:
The breathless anticipation owes itself at least partly to the super villain Thanos promised by this movie. He is such an epic villain that all the superheroes need to band together to lay him low.
He text messaged a sort-of-notice to his girlfriend: in this he lay down some ground rules for watching the movie together - no touching, kissing or even handholding, no talking, questions to be noted for answers later, if a main character dies, she has to cry with him! Also, she could not cancel or she would hear from his lawyer.
Clearly there are a lot of hardcore Marvel fans out there; some felt the need to add even more conditions to the long list above. Others were like – boy bye! Then go by yourself!
This movie is so anticipated and highly hyped as something unprecedented in terms of content, scale and special effects, that one wonders if it can really match up to those high, high expectations. Because can anything really be that spectacular, entertaining, thrilling, lavish, ‘marvel’ous?
People are scared! They are doing everything possible to avoid spoilers and go into the movie ready to be surprised, shocked, startled and altogether delighted.
The Avengers twitter account (duly festooned with the reassuring blue tick) warned people not to let out spoilers. And got this hashtag going: #ThanosDemandsYourSilence.
Some people apparently waited ten years for this movie (they could have got a life, but whatever) so if you let out spoilers you aren’t even a decent human being.
Some people have already seen the movie and they are offering fevered, positive but thankfully spoiler-less reviews. Apparently the movie is terrific, very funny and the ending is brilliant.
Some people just decided to go off social media altogether so that there is no chance of anything ruining that sick-with-anticipation, pit-of-the-stomach churning that they are currently reveling in.
‘Stay off the internet’ they said. The movie's directors, brothers Joe and Anthony Russo advised that to really avoid spoilers until one actually reaches the theatre, they should abstain from social media; the internet in general. So you should probably stop reading about now and turn off your data connection.
