With so many stuck at home with time on their hands, people are looking for creative pursuits. Obviously COVID-19 gives people a lot of inspiration. So much so that it is influencing people’s music. There are people who are writing brand new songs about the coronavirus and others who are rewriting old classics with suitably amended lyrics.
There are some 65 songs on Spotify that have the name of coronavirus in the name. This is one of them. It asks people to socially distance and practice good hand hygiene. There are others with “covid19” or “COVID-19” included in the title – how topical!
Truth be told, I wanted not so much to hear/watch the video but to read the comments. Alas, the comments are disabled for that video, for quite obvious reasons. The commentators typically like to point out the lack thereof rather forcefully.
Remember that old SRK song suno na suno na? Me neither. However, this Pakistani deputy commissioner decided to use the song to spread his message about staying safe from the coronavirus. As far and renditions go, this is a decent one.
Many people have made their own versions of Billy Joel’s We didn’t Start the Fire. This is a pretty good version as reworking of classics go. The guy calls on everyone to socially distance and to wash hands and also speaks about the toilet paper shortage.
With apologies to Gloria Gaynor, this version of I will Survive is all about surviving the lockdown/ self-quarantine. One line of this song pretty much sums it up for most of us: as long as I have internet I will stay alive.
It may be the most iconic rock song ever, but that didn’t stop people from giving it the coronavirus twist. Mama life was so much fun, but now I’ve got this unforgiving plague it says. It’s clever and funny and the vocals are very good as well – good enough to make this COVID-19 shrouded day a wee bit brighter.
