Two trailers were released yesterday that caught the eye. Quite surprisingly one is a Salman Khan movie that one hasn’t heard of as much as the other over-hyped offerings from Bollywood’s ageing muscleman: Antim. The other is Bunty aur Babli starring Rani Mukerji (from the original film) and Saif Ali Khan. One is quite what we expect – Salman Khan playing a Sardar but still very much continuing to be Salman. The other seems quite promising, take a look:
Salman Khan plays a Marathi-spouting Sardar cop Salman Khan. Mahesh Manjrekar is director and co-writer and also appears to have a cameo in the film.
Also in the film is Aayush Sharma, the brother in law of Salman Khan (remember him in Loveyatri? Me neither) He plays Rahulia and Mahima Makwana as his love interest.
He may be doing a ‘different’ role as a Sardar in this film – but it looks like every other Salman film.
…And in every Salman film: All slow-mo shots, bulging biceps, seeti-maar lines and shirtless shots of beating up the baddies. Sigh! Been there, done that --- to death!
The dialogues and action will likely be OTT (over the top), but the film releases in theatres on 26 November 2021.
Some of the tweeple saw a similarity between this and another upcoming loose cannon cop film.
This is the sequel to the 2005 film of the same name with Rani Mukerji reprising her role from the older film. Saif Ali Khan plays Bunty from the past (played by Abhishek Bachchan in the original film) as well as the one the latter-day Bunty with the pot-belly and receding hairline.
Then and now.
Mukerji’s fans are delighted to see her back on screen after a long hiatus.
Siddhant Chaturvedi (Gully Boy fame) is Shahid or Bunty no 2 and Sharvari Wagh is Amrita or Babli no 2.
In the first film, the Bunty-Babli duo scam a lot of people using crazy disguises and clever ideas – including selling the Taj Mahal to some gullible sod. The sequel promises more of this.
Presumably he steps into the shoes (and the black leather jacket) of Amitabh Bachchan who played the cop chasing the lovable crooks in the first film
Bunty and Babli seemed to have given up their bad ways and settled down to humdrum domesticity.
They are incensed when they find there are new kids on the block copying their methods and decide to get back into the game. The film releases in theatres on 19th November 2021.
