People never cease to amaze me. Sometimes they amaze me because of the fantastic ideas they think up, sometimes because of the goodness of their hearts and then some because they are quite simply awful human beings. Then there are those who amaze me because – they… well they are just that strange! At least one human being on earth is strange enough to think that he can fart his way to earning a living. This is the story about Doug, aka PaulFlart aka the Fart Authority:
Yes, farting. He does that. He then captures himself on video, in the act with the sounds, expressions, flared nostrils et el. That is it. That is his whole Instagram account: a series of short videos featuring farts – slight variations being those of captions, his facial expressions, and perhaps occasionally the hair.
#FreeTheFart, says his Twitter account. “Trying to fulfill my dream of bringing flatulent music to your ears!” it offers by way of explanation for this curious preoccupation of a fully grown man. The champion farter also invites inquiries; not sure for what. In this tweet is a video where the man is ‘reporting for duty tootie”
Now this is truly insane: Doug, or ‘The Fart Authority’, as he fondly calls himself, has upward of 81 k followers on Instagram. Each video offers up some background info about each fart; “Broccoli, crackers and cheese, with some hummus” for instance. He has 5k plus YouTube subscribers. One of his farting videos has some 47k views and one video made about those videos (literally a bunch of farts strung together) has upward of one hundred thousand views. There are clearly enough people in the world who find farts utterly riveting and vastly hilarious.
Doug or the Fart Authority had to have had a pretty cushy job if he had this much time to make fart videos. Well not for long. When he attained a certain amount of fame for his flatulence videos, his boss was not very amused and Doug was fired. He made a video about that as well.
Doug has this lofty life goal: “My goal is to be the first person to make a living off farting after getting fired from my job in a public manner,” Well you do have to hand it to him – no one ever before had the thought hmmm flatulence is lyrical; people will now pay to listen!
As this tweet seems to indicate, farts are hilarious! Another tweet said “If I had the money, I'd hire this guy.” The man clearly has a lot of sympathy. “Long Live Paul Flart #paulflart Fired for farting:” said this other tweet.
A cursory glance at Google Play store offers up plenty of apps that promise fart sound effects, funny farts and so on, including one ‘deluxe edition’ that coyly asks, ‘got farts?’ and just so we’re clear, these apps are listed under ‘Music’. And then there are books, joke books and movies about farting. The list is long!
Maybe its people being juvenile for a while... the bottom line (if you'll pardon the pun) seems to be farts are fun! Paul Flart wouldn’t be the phenomenon he is, if millions all over the world did not think of farting as funny!
