Chhapaak Trailer Is Here – Deepika Got Emotional, So Did Everyone Else

There is a scene in the film trailer where Malti is told don’t be so happy and she replies, but I am happy, what can I do. For me, this bit of the trailer of Chhapaak encompasses the hope and the spirit of the woman whose story we will watch, when the movie releases on 10 January 2020. Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar come together for Chhapaak and the trailer looks simply marvellous.

Chhapaak Official Trailer

Chhapaak narrates the story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and her struggle to come to terms with the violence done to her as well as her fight for justice. The movie stars Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey, directed by Meghna Gulzar and is written by Meghna Gulzar and Atika Chohan.

Based on a true story

उसने मेरा चेहरा बदला है, दिल नहीं  says Laxmi in this hugely inspiring Ted X Talk. Her bravery, her resolve and her amazing positivity shine through in all she says; clearly hers is a story that needs telling. Watch this video without your eyes welling up if you can – I couldn’t. I cannot articulate the sort of admiration I have for this beautiful young woman.

Not impactful

There were those who felt that the trailer lacked ‘impact’ and that it could have done with sharper editing. To them, I say whatever.

Kudos

Apart from a few perfunctory criticisms, the trailer has attracted overwhelmingly positive responses from viewers as well as other actors and filmmakers.

Moving

This is a story that horrifies us but also fills us with hope and positivity. This is ‘powerful cinema’ according to actor Yami Gautam.

Important film

The hideous reality of acid attacks needs to be addressed. Most of us don’t know about the enormity of this problem. As such this film speaks about an important theme and starts a conversation around it.

Sensitively told

Known for the deft handling of unusual themes in her previous films such as Hu Tu Tu, Filhaal, Talvar, Raazi, Meghna Gulzar promises to deliver here as well.

Survivor not victim

This film is a refreshing departure from the norm which expects women to be unhappy and ashamed because of crimes they have been subject to. She has gone through hell, but she is happy now; she is entitled to that happiness is the message.

Emotional-making

This is an undoubtedly emotional-making story for everyone involved in the making of the film; particularly for lead actor Deepika Padukone.

Path breaking

This is not just a female oriented film, but also one that is written, directed and produced by women. As such, this film represents a lot of refreshing changes within Bollywood.

Good prosthetics

While the recently launched trailer of Thalaivi was panned for its unrealistic prosthetics, Deepika's look in the film and her acting seem to be on point, said the tweeple.

Not an entertainer

The Chhapaak trailer promises a powerful story told well, rather than a mindless entertainer. It may not be an easy film to watch, but Chhapaak promises to be a thought-provoking one when it releases on 10 January 2020.
