The annual event that takes the skill and nerve of participants to the limit is back! The Desert Warrior Challenge with obstacle courses designed to test strength, endurance and teamwork of all warriors is exhilarating, challenging and hugely rewarding! Here is everything you wanted to know about the event:
The yearly event will take place at Al Marmoom. The Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve is the specially protected desert area which is an important part of the region's biodiversity. The event will be on Friday, 22 February 2019; back for its fifth run after the first edition in 2014 (which attracted nearly 2,000 participants) and each year subsequently thereafter. The inaugural event attracted teams from 6 countries and many different nationalities.
Watch this video of the 2014 event to know what it’s all about. The participants have to undergo a gruelling course with climbing, jumping, carrying, slithering, sliding crawling, getting into icy water tanks, braving the pitiless sun.
This is a hugely popular challenge; conducted by the Dubai Sports Council. There are various difficulty levels: the 5 km Fearless Course with over 12 obstacles, the 10 km Ultimate course with 20+ obstacles.
The Extreme Warrior course is for the most hardcore contestants, which is a 20 km course with 30+ obstacles and is a timed race. It is open to individuals as well as teams competing for the Desert Warrior Challenge title.
There is also a Junior course for kids which is between 1 and 2 km with 8 obstacles. The idea behind the event is the “goal of making Dubai one of the most physically active places in the world,” says the Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council. Since the desert is a part of the region's culture, this is one way to showcase the lifestyle and culture and the scenic beauty of the area.
People are invited to try out obstacles like the ¼ pipe, the monster, cargo, beast, bell climb, brain freeze, money business, boot camp, twin peaks, claustrophobia and much more. Team sizes are unlimited and teams pay entry fees with each member paying their individual fee.
