Hot on the heels of her electric performance in Judgementall Hai Kya, Kangana Ranaut is back --- literally with a bang --- with the teaser trailer of Dhaakad. It’s all fire and sparks, guns and bullets and blood in the teaser trailer of a film that will release only next year at Diwali. Check out the Dhaakad teaser trailer and the Twitter reactions to it.
It’s just Ranaut in the entire 40-odd second trailer. She walks in, fire and desolation around her and proceeds to pump bullets into something. At first, we think she’s firing at some water but then we realise that it’s the empty cartridges falling into the water below. She then proceeds to lick a rivulet of blood that has trickled down to her mouth and looks challengingly into the camera. Freeze frame on DHAAKAD.
She doesn’t smile, she doesn’t frown; from her deadpan expression she appears to be some sort of killing machine. Commentators referred to the teaser as ‘bloody’ and ‘intense’.
In testosterone-fuelled Bollywood, the hero is always a man; if there is a heroine worth the name, she is strictly secondary to the mighty male. This movie promises to buck that trend.
Dhaakad is directed by Razneesh "Razy" Ghai and is produced by Sohel Maklai Productions and Asylum Films and co-produced by Qyuki Digital Media. This commentator points out that Ranaut is one of the few Bollywood actors who can carry a film on her own. She is the original self-made woman and doesn’t need big banners backed by Johars and Shettys to launch her films.
Fans feel that the teaser promises an exceptional movie – a power-packed performance that only someone like Ranaut can bring to life.
Ranaut’s fierce, unapologetic persona – both on and off screen – inspires many. She is seen as confident, courageous and brave; willing and able to take on anyone.
There were those who felt that the teaser trailer was all fire and little substance.
It seemed to make no sense to a lot of people as Ranaut simply swaggers in and pumps bullets into god-knows-what.
Some commentators thought that the teaser trailer was outright bad. Whether it is because they dislike Kangana or because they thought the whole scene was unconvincing or whether they think only men can be heroes --- it's anyone's guess.
I have no idea whether this is a valid criticism or not, but Bollywood tends to be rather vague on details such as these, so I'm inclined to give it some credence.
For a while the teaser trailer disappeared from YouTube, due to a copyright claim it would seem. It was soon restored however and it currently has upward of 3 M YouTube views.
The blood-licking shot was a natural target for the meme-makers. They quickly got to work. Here it’s ‘paan-ki-peek’.
I’m not a Potter fan so I can’t agree or disagree. All I can say is ugh! That Voldemort is hideous. As for Dhaakad we will have to wait to see what else the movie has to offer. Right now we know very little of the film that will release around Diwali in 2020.
