Dhamaka, Bunty Aur Babli 2 – What Do Reviews Say and Why?

Two reasonably interesting looking films were released last weekend, with Bollywood limping back to normalcy now in what we can cautiously call post-lockdown times. Bunty Aur Babli 2 features Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji while Dhamaka stars Kartik Aryan, Mrunal Thakur and others. While the first was released in theatres, the second is available to watch on Netflix.

#BuntyAurBabli2 review

This reviewer has a massive following (3.7M followers) but has shown himself easy to please in many past instances. He wasn’t pleased with this movie, however.

Quirky

This reviewer has a more favourable view of the film and feels that it was able to retain the quirkiness of the first Bunty Babli film.

Fun film

This tweet says it’s a funny film that had her laughing all the way. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that she is speaking about the film of a close relative?

Interesting premise

The older couple who has retired from hustling now lives a humdrum life. However, there are now two new kids on the block. People were looking forward to this; especially those who enjoyed the 2005 film.

‘So bad’

This viewer doesn’t seem to have liked the film – just seems happy to have been able to watch a film in the theatre after such a long time.

Mixed reviews

While there are those who found the film entertaining, there are many who felt that it has an interesting premise but that the execution fell short.

Dhamaka Official Trailer

With is movie Kartik Aryan seems to have gone out of his comfort zone of playing the lover-boy. The story is about a jaded, recently divorced current affairs news anchor who uses information about bomb blasts to revive his flagging career.

Good performance

The lead actor has received praise for this unconventional choice of film as well as his performance in it.

Good reviews

The film has received good reviews from viewers as well as many in the business of broadcast journalism for being a realistic take on the state of media in the country.

Unusual story

Many liked the movie about the disillusioned professional, the cutthroat business of news media and TRPs, some found it a bit boring.

Important subject

The state of the news media is something that affects us all, points out this tweet.

‘Don’t always trust’

As some pointed out, many of the positive reviews could be manipulated or paid reviews and should not be taken at face value. This applies to both films, Bunty Aur Babli 2 as well as Dhamaka – both movies seem to have pluses and minuses according to the reviews.
