Dussehra Trivia: Ravana Was An Indian By Birth!

Dussehra is finally here and amongst all the celebrations and joy of God Ram defeating the ultimate demon King Ravana, a trivia about Ravana's birthplace has left us amused! Well, he was born in Bishrakh, a village in Greater Noida West. So is Ravana actually an Indian or a Sri Lankan who used to come to India on vacations? Well, read more to find out!

Dussehra as Ram vs Ravana

Dussehra has always been about the Ayodhya Prince defeating the Lankan King and rightfully getting back his wife. So it was assumed by many that Ravana is from Sri Lanka, our neighbouring country.

Bishrakh named after Vishshrawa

Rishi Vishshrawa was Ravana's father and as per the village's ancestoral history, the place is named after him.

Bishrakh has a Ravan ka mandir

The place has a mandir that exclusively worships Ravana as its deity and has never worshipped Rama or Durga, who helped Rama in winning the war.

Proof from the past

Objects have been found from archaeological excavations that show statues of Shiva and Parvati, but nothing related to Rama has been found until now.

History of Ravana shifting to Lanka

Parvati wanted Shiva to build the most beautiful palace for her and this is when Shiva made the palace of gold on an island called Lanka. Ravana was the priest who did the Grihpravesh ceremony for them and asked for Lanka as his dakshina, which Shiva gladly handed over to him.

Ironically, both Ram and Ravana share the same state

Coincidence or fate, both of them share Uttar pradesh as their birth town.

The unattended town of Bishrakh

Bishrakh lays unattended, in sharp contrast to Ayodhya, Rama's birthplace adorned by many. Umed Singh, Phoolan Devi's husband made the premise boundary of the temple. No more developement has been witnessed by this place until now.

Mythology has the power to amaze us every single time! Happy Dussehra we say!
