Whatever the critiques say, or no matter how much fans worship a movie and its actors, the real success of a film is determined by its fate at the Box Office. As the year comes to a wrap, let’s take a look at the top ten Bollywood movies of 2017 on the basis of their worldwide collections.
Golmaal Again: Rs. 309.21 crore
With the third edition turning into another Box Office grosser, it is hence proved that the Golmaal franchise has become a formula. No ifs, no buts, people swipe their cards to buy total entertainment for three hours...period.
Raees: Rs 308.27 crore
It did live up to its name. The story of an underdog who 'crimes' his way to success. SRK and Pakistan’s sexiest export Mahira Khan set the screen on fire. The classic example of a good storyline and star power coming together.
Judwaa 2: Rs 227.51 crore
Daddy (David) Dhawan casts son Varun Dhawan to bring back the magic of yesteryear’s super hit (by the same name) with Salman Khan essaying the twin roles. While people missed their Bhai-Khan, large numbers flocked to theatres out of sheer nostalgia.
Toilet Ek Prem Katha: Rs 216.58 crore
By now, we have begun to believe that Akshay Kumar has set himself a gameplan aside. And it works. An offbeat storyline, B-lister actress and it’s a hit. No point scrutinising further. It’s tried and tested.
Tubelight: Rs. 211.14 crore
Forget all the 'over' and 'under' analysing. It was Salman Khan. Does your bulb shine now? It’s simple mathematics. Salman Khan movies don’t flop!
Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya: Rs. 200.34 crore
Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan with their lovey-dovey romance had the young crowd on their side. The results showed in the form of a long running at the theatres.
The State vs Jolly LL.B 2: Rs. 197.33 crore
It was a tough call; miss Arshad Warsi or applaud Akshay Kumar? Moviegoers did either or both. Courtesy the success of its first installment, this black comedy struck a chord with film buffs with ease.
Kaabil: Rs. 176.07 crore
How could die-hard Hrithik Roshan fans not see the de-glammed avatar of their Greek God? Forget those satiated only by good looks, this was Hrithik the actor coupled with a hard-hitting storyline that had audiences clap in awe.
Baadshaho: Rs. 123.50 crore
This Milan Luthria period heist film had the likes of Ajay Devgn, Ileana D'Cruz, Emraan Hashmi, Vidyut Jammwal, Esha Gupta and Sanjay Mishra in the lead roles. Set in the emergency era, the chartbuster song mere rashke qamar also contributed to its success.
Hindi Medium: Rs. 102.77 crore
With Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar in the main roles, this movie played its alternate cinema card to the T. Not bad for a less budget flick sans the Khans!
