Friends is easily one of the most popular and most watched sitcoms ever. So when the Friends Reunion episode was streamed 17 years after the end, fans were very interested indeed. The one-off Friends Reunion episode featuring Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey and other guests is about an hour and a half and is available on Zee5. To answer the question should you watch it? The short answer is yes (check out the trailer below). I enjoyed the sitcom and watched all 10 Seasons and am relieved to say that the reunion episode was sweet, endearing, nostalgic and enjoyable. I had feared that it would somehow be cringe and was relieved to find that it wasn’t!
Yes they look older and they make us wonder how many of the six have had work done and how much, so let’s get that out of the way.
The reunion had the six together on the set as well as in front of the iconic titles scene fountain chatting with James Corden.
They recreate some of the more memorable and delightful scenes.
A lot of people got really emotional – the actors and the fans.
There was a little fashion show where ‘models’ (and Matt Le Blanc) recreated some memorable costumes: Holiday Armadillo, ‘Spud’nik and the leather pants etc.
Ross and Rachel were the iconic couple throughout the ten seasons. Turns out Jennifer Anniston and David Schwimmer were ‘crushing hard’ on each other in real life as well.
People made huge emotional investments in fictional love stories – so this is a big deal.
People hope… some pointed out that both actors are now single in real life.
Regular folk from different parts of the world as well as celebs came on the show to say what it had meant to them. For some viewers this was emotional.
There were a lot of laughs but also tears shed as the actors recalled all the good times they had had; recalling creating something that turned out to be so special for so many.
Monica and Ross’s parents, Richard (Tom Selleck), Reese Witherspoon (Rachel’s sister) Janice, Gunther, the cranky neighbour all made appearances.
Like Paul Rudd who played Mike, Phoebe’s love interest.
Lady Gaga did Smelly Cat – and frankly hit it out of the stadium.
BTS, David Beckham, Malala Yousafzai, Cindy Crawford, Justin Beiber, Kit Harington appeared on the episode.
For fans, watching Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer get back together has been great. It is funny and nostalgic and emotional.
No they didn’t address issues such as the show’s lack of representation, the fat jokes, the homophobia etc that have not aged well. But the reunion wasn’t about that – it was about reliving some iconic TV scenes and conjecturing what Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler and Joey may be doing now, 17 years after it all ended. And everyone (almost) agreed – Ross and Rachel were on a break.
