GOT Season 8 – The Story So Far

If you're a Game of Thrones fan you know that the eighth and final season started a week back and that the two episodes aired so far have clarified the battle lines. The alliances are clear; we've had several heartwarming unions, but few surprises so far. Here is what we know at the end of the two episodes (warning, there could be spoilers, but it won't spoil it for you too much).

The two ‘queens’

Sansa and Daenerys seemed at one point to have reached an understanding in episode two. It was not to be, however.

Arya is true to form

She is her usual aggressive, fearless self and has a special weapon that she wants Gendry to make for her. She also has another demand of the blacksmith and secret son of Robert Baratheon.

She also does something unexpected

Fans are intrigued. Or shocked. Or repelled.

A very early prophecy?

Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark had this chat in Season One. Who knew that their prophecy would come true in a very, very different fashion from the way they imagined!

“Who are you?”

Bran Stark is asked this question yet again. The answer ‘I am the three eyed raven’ is generally confusing and unsatisfactory.

Tormund has arrived

And Brienne of Tarth has also arrived and Tormund’s hankering for her appears not to have ceased. We also find out the secret behind Tormund’s great strength.

Ser Jamie

In the end of episode one, Ser Jamie arrives and exchanges uncomfortable glances with Bran. Episode two decides his precarious fate thanks to some fortuitous interventions and we see a lot more of him.

An old ally

In the next episode, he is reacquainted with his old ally: she does something for him; he returns the favour.

Jon’s big revelation

He announces that he is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen and it does not go down too well with the woman who is revealed to be his aunt.

Speculation

Sansa welcomes Theon Greyjoy with open arms – literally. Something there? Many viewers would like there to be.

This lovely ditty

Podrick sings this poignant song as everyone waits for war and Florence & the Machine perform the song for the closing credits. The lyrics “high in the halls of the kings who are gone, Jenny would dance with her ghosts,” could prove prophetic.

This will happen

We know that there is to be an epic battle. The end of episode 2 announces the arrival of the Night King and his army of the Dead.

The battle begins

Viewers know that a lot of their fave characters will die. Soon. Inevitably.
