We've all seen images of the cat – looking annoyed, looking resigned, looking fully disillusioned of the human race. Typically that grumpy cat’s image would be accompanied by a something acerbic like: you look happy; stop it! Or I like the sound you make…when you shut up! So grumpy cat is now dead and Twitter mourning the passing and/or celebrating a famous meme sensation:
In spite of expert medical attention and care from her loving family, she died from complications of a urinary tract infection earlier this week. She died peacefully in the arms of ‘mommy’ Tabatha.
Why did she have to die, lamented some fans; many of whom even changed their display image to that of the always-disapproving looking feline.
But she made us smile! Hers was a face made for memes; conveying so perfectly the disgust, displeasure or distaste that people wanted to express.
It is quite likely that the creature who looked this grumpy in life would have found the afterlife pretty unimpressive as well.
That's no age to die, said some. “Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere,” said Twitter Moments or the choleric looking pet.
Memes are quite a cultural phenomenon of our times: they tell us some profound truths, make us laugh, make us think. A little bit of that cultural phenomenon is now dead.
This cat was quite a celebrity herself and met a lot of celebrities as well; seen here with Stan Lee. A lot of people shared memories of having met her.
She was a very well-known cat indeed! In this video former President Obama mimics grumpy cat.
The tweeple shared picture of their own less-than-cheerful looking cats in honour of the dear departed pet.
Who said only cats can be grumpy and bad tempered! Dogs can appear as crabby from time to time.
Placed on the Iron Throne here, the cat looks just as grumpy.
Rest in peace Grumpy Cat, says the internet. Maybe it’s a more interesting world up there!
