Remember the great big, obscenely opulent Ambani wedding of last December? And then the other big Ambani wedding in March this year? And then much tom-tommed bailout of one rich Ambani by an even richer Ambani? Never mind, check out this Ambani video; the latest reason for India's richest family, the Ambanis to become viral on social media:
Shloka Mehta married Akash Ambani in March this year. The family decided to wish the new bahu via this video. It features everyone near and dear to the young bride and is set to the tune of These are a few of my favourite things from Sound of Music.
Some of the tweeple thought that the video was sweet and adorable and a lovely way to wish a new bahu happy birthday.
From calling the video adorable to heartwarming to special, a number of media houses fell over backward trying to project the altogether pedestrian video as wonderful. A lot of people thought that this was just another PR exercise from the Ambanis.
I am not sure whether this commentator is in real earnest or being sarcastic. The latter, I suspect.
Some thought that the Ambani family helps entertain us all – with their opulent wedding antics, well-known residences and videos such as these.
…Food? It was noted that Nita appears to be thanking her daughter in law for introducing her to various flavours of tea and popcorn. Bizarre.
All that pyar mohabbat on display… this tweet assessment is fairly accurate.
This occurred to me as well: the daughter of my dear friend had made a similar video for her mother’s 35th birthday – without paying anyone a penny. She got all the important friends and family members to wish her. The production values of the Happy-Birthday-Shloka-video are only slightly better.
The video appeared to have triggered rather a lot of the tweeple’s gag reflex. Not only did they think it was cringe-worthy and saccharine sweet, there are many other problems with it as well. The repeated statement of the woman's married name and the repeated hints and outright demands for her to have a child received strong criticism.
Good question. The family wanted to wish her via a 10-minute video. Fair enough. Why make the video public unless the sole aim was to smugly show off to everyone the shiny happy world of the Ambanis. The general opinion seemed to be that an ivy league education cannot erase a patriarchal mindset; nor can all the money in the world buy good taste.
Some were reminded of the rich, sanskaari people in a Karan Johar movie.
Most of the men in Shloka’s life seem to be telling her to get on with the baby making.
This was noticed by many.
The video was dissected – and not in a positive way.
Some are convinced this video will have video response – will this also be foisted upon the public or remain in the domain of the Ambani family WhatsApp group?
