Thanks to the coronavirus contagion that is altering where we go and what we do, the Holi celebration was a little toned down this year. Many resolved not to play but were persuaded to play anyway. Others decided to use only dry colours this year. Some decided to observe Holi by trending #Holi2020 and other Holi hashtags on Twitter.
#Holi2020 was Holi in the time of Coronavirus – there were calls not to play Holi since the virus is seen to spread where people gather in large numbers.
Well, maybe not.
…Of a different kind.
…And the result. Some may have decided not to play Holi, but others seemed to have different plans for them.
There are many perils of wearing white on Holi: the clothes are rendered completely useless. Also white clothes become see-through when wet.
They don’t like playing Holi and may actually be scared of the whole experience.
Some may be drawn into the festivities willy-nilly, regardless of their own wishes.
It isn't just colour; mud, eggs, beer can also be added to the ‘celebrations’.
Holi 2020 was not a pleasant day for some – such as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh – because of the mass migration of MLAs out of the Congress.
The artistically applied colours in Bollywood movies tend to mislead us about our own reality, pointed out some.
We saw some interesting headlines as well. This headline speaks of the Holi fire as the symbolic triumph of good over evil and burning of a demon – a very modern demon in this case.
Happiness is a state of mind pointed out some. One can choose to count one's blessings even when life is difficult. Holi is just such a festival - which reminds us to acknowledge positivity and to relinquish negativity.
