Who doesn’t dream of free pizza for life – particularly if you’re a bachelor who cannot cook and whose finances are always shaky! How wonderful to have pizza that you pay nothing for! Ever! Paul Price from the UK managed to bring to fruition exactly this dream of the young and the hungry – in a manner of speaking. And this isn’t about scrounging around for pizza coupon codes and discount vouchers either. This is about free pizza. Free!
There’s a bug in your pizza (app)!
A cyber security expert, Paul Price found a flaw in the payment gateway of ordering a Dominos pizza online using the pizza giant’s phone app. Paul noticed that after placing an order, a buyer would sometimes receive a discount voucher for their next purchase and he wanted to know more about how that worked.
At first he tried to place the order with a fake VISA debit card number. When this was rejected, he did some tweaking of his own and found that he could place an order without a valid payment! And yes, the Domino’s outlet had received the order and they would be delivering that pizza in 20 minutes!
So can you get free pizza for life?
That would be No! Firstly our man Paul actually paid for the pizza when it was delivered to him because he was deeply guilt ridden when he succeeded in placing in a ‘paid’ order without actually paying. He told the delivery guy that there had been a payment glitch and paid him in cash. Come on! He’s a hacker not a two bit hoodlum who doesn’t want to pay for his food.
And secondly (and this is going to convince you far more effectively than an easy to subdue conscience) Dominos got to know about the glitch in their app and sadly they rectified the problem. So you may want free pizza for life, but you won’t.
It’s like the wise man said, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
