In the chat-show designed to resemble a film courtroom, Bollywood actor Govinda spoke about his reasons for rejecting various films. He told host Rajat Sharma his reasons for rejecting big hits such as Chandni, Gadar, Devdas etc. and also why he rejected Avatar, one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. Twitter gleefully got into the act.
Sharma questions Govinda about various movies that he rejected for all sorts of reasons: because it’s a side character, there is too much swearing, the hero has to be in a wheelchair… and best of all, because of blue paint!
Govinda said that he had been approached (presumably by James Cameron) for a role in a film; that he, Govinda suggested the name Avatar for the film. However, he didn’t want to be wearing blue paint and hence rejected Cameron's offer.
This comment expresses the view that Govinda’s antics would have been a poor fit for a film such as Avatar.
This commentator clarifies that it was CGI and not blue body paint that rendered the humanoid's skin colour in the film. It seems strange that Govinda did not seem to know something this basic about the film that he claims to have been offered.
Some of the Tweeple wanted to know whether Govinda had been speaking about another Avatar altogether.
Of course people thought it was rather funny that someone known to have done some fairly cartoonish roles in his career would have been offered something as high profile as Avatar.
The tweeple weren't convinced that the actor was truthful about his claims about the offer made to him.
And if he had to give reasons, could he not come up with a better one than… blue paint!
Many expressed frank, outright skepticism at Govinda's claim.
And perhaps it was because of the requirement to swing from one to another building why he refused the role of Spiderman, demanded this commentator.
If Govinda was offered a part, why not me as well, asks this one.
This commentator seems to think that such self-confidence can only stem from a trip.
Apart from all else, it was the flimsy excuse proffered for supposedly refusing the role, which attracted a lot of comment.
This Twitter user seems to think it is unlikely that James Cameron is even acquainted with Govinda, much less offered him a role in his most ambitious movie.
Some helpfully shared alternative movie posters of Avatar… directed by James Dhawan.
This alternative movie poster also has a blue Govinda… and the Avatar tagline suitably adjusted: main to Pandora se jaa raha tha.
