IPL 2019 Final – Who Won & Why According to the Memes

After weeks of eight teams slugging it out in the league stages of the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League, it is all over and we have a new champion. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians faced off in a closely fought battle between the two best teams; fittingly it was a last ball finish. Here are the best tweets and memes from the IPL 2019 final MI v CSK.

Battle of nerves

When MI won the toss and elected to bat, it seemed to have been a poor decision since they could make only 149 in their allotted overs. CSK seemed to be cruising at several points in the game before MI bowlers put on the breaks. Until the last ball, things could have gone either way. Ultimately they went MI’s way when a perfect ball by Lasith Malinga trapped Shardul Thakur leg before wicket.

Bumrah a star

His tight bowling restricted and pressured the batsman. Not only is he accurate and nagging, he has a terrific temperament. As Harsha Bhogle tweeted. “Now, @Jaspritbumrah93, rest a while and keep those magic overs for June and July.”

Shane Watson’s innings in vain

He batted right through the innings getting 80 off 59 before he was tragically run out with just two balls of the innings left! Finally, it was the canny craft and invaluable experience of a seasoned campaigner like Malinga that refused CSK the two runs that they needed off the last ball.

Aww-some

Rohit Sharma led his team to victory for the fourth time; the most for any IPL team. Not only that, he has been a part of each MI squad that has won. This picture of his, lifting his little one before the cup had everyone oohing and aahing.

Man of the Match

Jasprit Bumrah was awarded man of the match for his brilliant bowling. However, some felt that the MI team owner is the real man of the match.

The Malinga factor

He gave away 22 runs in his first two overs, conceding 49 runs from his 4 overs. However he came through in the final over; that last ball which mattered and managed to swing the match for his team.

Best team money could by

As India’s richest man, there is nothing Mukesh Ambani cannot afford… including the best players to be on his IPL team.

The Dhoni runout

CSK fans and many other cricket lovers felt that M S Dhoni’s run out dismissal was incorrect.

Accusations were made

There was a slight doubt and in the spirit of the game, the benefit of the doubt always goes to the batsman. People had their own theories for why the decision of the third umpire went the other way even after such lengthy deliberations.

Super game

It was a closely fought match where each team constantly kept trying to wrest the initiative from the opponent.

Like this!

The teams were evenly matched and gave each other a tough fight. Many mistakes were made, by both sides, but in the end, the team that made one less mistake won.
