For superhero fans (and here I commit the sin of lumping DC and Marvel fans together) the upcoming Avengers film is a huge deal. For Rajini fans, an upcoming Rajinikanth film is no less than manna from heaven. So the announcement of Kaala was as huge a deal. And then the Tweeple found that both films have the same release date! And so it was that yet another Twitter trend erupted; this one as inconsequential as most others.
It’s a Rajini film. That was enough to send fans into convulsions of ecstasy. As if that wasn’t enough for the Tamil and Telugu fans, for Hindi movie fans it also sees the return of Nana Patekar as a villain.
When fans watched the trailer they were in paroxysms of delight. There is vast amounts of conjecture about the possible inclusion of Captain Marvel as well as a heart rending sense of loss at superheroes that will likely perish in this edition.
When the release date was advanced by a week, they became positively delirious. Apparently Robert Downey Jr (Ironman) asked “any chance I could see it earlier?” and Marvel Studios replied “Anything for you Mr. Stark. How's April 27th?”
Both movies release on 27th April 2018. The respective fans of each are obviously convinced that their film will wipe the metaphorical floor with the other.
For some, the #BoxOfficeWars are going to be quite one sided – even if its 22 superheroes versus one Super Superhero.
Nana Patekar as a fairly formidable following as this tweet demonstrates. He and Rajini apparently are the superheroes without the costumes.
It was just going to be a busy, busy day.
Marvel fans were convinced that Dhanush, the producer of Kaala was quite upset about the clash of release dates and would be concerned about the Avengers film eating into his movie's business.
Kaala/ Rajini fans have no doubt in their mind as to which film they are looking forward to; that the Avengers film will eat Rajini dust, come 27th April.
OK, so the Avengers film is much anticipated, but that is nothing compared to how the crazy Rajini fans anticipate a film from the Thaliavar! Rajini comes first. The Avengers can wait. Clearly, Marvel Studios knows nothing about superstar Rajini's superpowers. Because #AvengersInfinityWar will need more than just the Hulk to beat #Kaala at the box office.
