This morning my daughter told me very seriously – ma I think I will go off social media for the next 9 days... I laughed in incredulity and then asked why. Can’t risk the spoilers, she said with a perfectly straight face. Fans are literally counting the days to Avengers Endgame and most will identify with her sentiments as well as those expressed by Marvel in their letter with the #Dontspoiltheendgame hashtag.
Addressed to the ‘greatest fans in the world’ the letter requested viewers not to give out spoilers and spoil things for others who were yet to watch the film. Remember Thanos still demands your silence, said the letter.
Most people want to be amazed, surprised, shocked and blown away in that darkened hall. If you already know what’s going to happen, it certainly detracts from the experience.
If you spoil it for me… it will be shoot at sight!
Maybe if Marvel said it, people would listen?
Most agreed that they wouldn’t spoil the movie viewing experience for others.
Dr. Strange was able to visualise millions of different scenarios - so in a sense, he watched the movie as many times - but he didn’t go around telling people about it.
Some fans have experienced this repeatedly. They are considering deleting all their social media accounts and becoming hermits.
I am not exactly sure how this would work, but this ingenious Twitter user has muted certain words/ search terms – so that none of them show up in their feed presumably.
This helpful suggestion tells you how to avoid spoilers by turning off media previews which the default setting lets us view.
Think of it as a mental and spiritual detox! Going off social media has to be a good idea – for many reasons!
This Twitter user threatens potential spoilers with nightmares of a really creepy doll.
After you’ve watched a brilliant movie, you want to discuss it, relive it and tell people about it. Everyone gets that. But one also has to be a responsible fan and think of all the other fans as well, so #Dontspoiltheendgame for them.
