Movies That Get Better Each Time You Re-Watch - Answers to Amazon Question

When people say about a movie – it is a good one-time watch – this is usually a mild criticism of the movie. For many movie buffs, a movie that is really good is one that must be watched again and again and then again. So, when Amazon asked about ‘a movie that gets better with every re-watch’, people basically shared names of movies that they really, really liked.

Movies that get better

People shared names /posters of movies they liked so much that they watched them repeatedly. They also tweeted about movies that are so complex and deep that watching more than once is a necessity – just to make sense of the movie.

Inglorious Basterds

This is film that several people recommended (a Quentin Tarantino film) about an alternate story of plots to kill Hitler. Many agree that rewatching the film reveals nuance that may not reveal itself during the first watch.

Interstellar

Definitely this movie! This very USP of this Christopher Nolan film is how incredibly complex it is – a story about a dystopian future, wormholes, places where time slows down, where people stop ageing…

Veer Zaara

The story about star-crossed lovers divided by national boundaries and identities is recommended by this and other commentators.

Master

The recent Tamil film starring Vijay was the choice of this and other commentators.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

A road trip movie, a story about friendships and other important relationships, a travelogue – this film is good fun.

Andaz Apna Apna

This movie may be unashamedly silly, the acting OTT and the ‘plot’ may be thin to nonexistent, but it still manages to be uproariously funny. It is one of my fave films to re-watch.

This suggestion

This viewer wants more of Stanley Kubrick movies (he is the maker of films like, Full Metal Jacket, Lolita, Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove) etc.to be added to Amazon Prime

Sooryavansham

Amitabh Bachchan in double role, this movie is well known for being aired numerous times and for triggering innumerable memes. What it is not known for is being a good movie.

My name is Khan

I would question SRK’s portrayal of someone with autism but would still say this is a relevant film in view of the islamophobia that is currently rife all over.

Ulidavaru Kandante

This Kannada film has a plot similar to Akira Kurosawa's cult 1950 film Rashomon and received mixed reviews.

How to train your dragon

I would say the first two parts were truly very good – particularly because the film gently questions prejudice born out of nothing but ignorance. The film asks us to question what we think we know about others who are different than us.

Back to the future

This is a film I loved when I was a kid – maybe a re-watching is due.

Hey Ram

This was a movie before it’s time – foretelling much of the kind of religious strife we see in society today.  Plus, absolutely terrific music!

Jojo Rabbit

This is my pick for an excellent movie that yields more detail, more nuance, more wry humour in the re-watching. Amazon Prime's question about movies to re-watch yielded some good suggestions.
