There are many, many festivals in India – many of which last for several days, such as Navratri. This nine day festival comes around twice a year (that I know of) and around this time of year, we haveDurga Pooja in Bengal, the nine day dance celebration in Gujarat and nine days of fasting in other parts of the country. Shopping for and planning Navratri outfits, learning some Garba moves, special menus are all a part of these nine days.
Each of the nine evenings people literally dance away the night at various community events all over Gujarat and wherever there is a sizeable Gujarati population.
For many, the nine nights of dance is something they look forward to all year.
The Gujaratis of Mumbai; fondly known as Gujjus, celebrate with a lot of fanfare and prepare well in advance.
That groovy beat is difficult to resist!
Lots of planning goes into this as well. Nine night, nine outfits. Repeating outfits may be viewed as a serious fashion gaffe.
Gujjus seem to gracefully sway to the garba beat just naturally --- others not so much.
This is widely believed.
What with the big traffic fines being levied after the amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act, people are doing their bit for road safety awareness.
…Can Falguni Pathak (one of the best known exponents of popular Gujarati folk music) be far behind?
Passes for the classier Navratri events are always in high demand during these nine days.
Some passes are in higher demand than others.
....Don't eat meat, grain, salt, garlic, onions and many other things during fasts. This is that guy right before and right after the Navratri fasts.
…during Navratri.
Are they playing ajeeb daastaan hai yeh in the background? Also, why?
Yes, I know what you're thinking – when did this ever happen in GoT? Turns out the meme-makers got this from a season 4 blooper reel and it fits almost too well.
