I personally am very reluctant to commit to a series – they require too much investment of time required and if there is one thing I'm stingy about, it is my time. I like movies and limited series more. However, I am obviously in a minority – because the quality and sheer variety of OTT series available indicates how wildly popular they are. And these are some of the OTT series you can look forward to in 2022:
The science-fiction horror drama series on Netflix has been hugely popular since it launched its first season in 2016. This year the series will continue with Season 4, episodes 26 to 34. The series not only deals in the supernatural and the paranormal but also makes a segue into a portal to an alternate dimension. The release date is not yet announced.
This unique creation – a ‘regency romance’ that makes the brave attempt to be colour blind (we get used to the incongruity of black and brown English aristocracy after a bit) is coming back with Season 2. Another one of the Bridgerton children charts their path of true love – after Daphne, it is now the turn of the eldest brother, raffish rake Anthony. Bridgerton Season 3 is coming in March 2022.
So far we saw all the action around the marriage of the Queen, the travails of her sister and kids, particularly Charles and the breakdown of the marriage of Charles and Diana. The next season will see an older Queen Elizabeth, the death of Diana, the political tenure of Tony Blair, and the fire that had broken out at Windsor Castle. Season 5 will premier in November 2022.
This Netflix series stars Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Kapoor, Manav Kaul, Suhasini Mulay among others. This is the story about a global superstar who vanishes without a trace. We will see the story of a “person who was maybe not always under the spotlight, but will always remain in the limelight,” sometime later this year.
This critically acclaimed series on Prime Video surprised, shocked but also made us ruefully accept certain realities of our society that we cannot wish away. Season 1 had nine episodes that followed the professional and personal lives of wedding planners Tara and Karan. The lavish weddings portrayed some of the secrets and bigotries that we live with, but don’t want to acknowledge or talk about. We know little about Season 2 except that filming wrapped up in July 2021 and that it will premier sometime this year.
This Amazon Prime series has been one of the most popular OTT series of India – something that follows the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ genre of the political-mafia nexus in the badlands. Check out the trailer of season 2 until we know more about Season 3 which releases sometime this year. There is much else to look forward to, such as the series Scam 2003 which will stream on Sonyliv.
