In recent years, Bollywood has embraced the biopic genre; particularly biopics based on sporting personalities. So after the stories of the Phoghat girls (Dangal), Bhaag Milkha Bhag, Mary Kom, Dhoni: The Untold Story to mention a few, we are now to have a biopic on one of India’s most accomplished badminton players; Saina Nehwal.
The biopic of badminton player Saina Nehwal was announced recently & Parineeti Chopra has been cast in the title role. According to director Amole Gupte, she has the talent and acting skills required to essay the role.
Release dates of the film have not yet been announced. However, we know that Saina the movie will be released in 2020.
The first look of the film has been released and has garnered largely positive responses.
Shradha Kapoor was originally roped in to play the title role in the film. However, scheduling conflicts meant that the role then went to Chopra.
"Due to circumstances beyond her control, the actress kept giving other films priority over the national badminton champion’s biopic, [so producer] has decided to go ahead with Chopra," said a statement issued by Bhushan Kumar Productions. Some fans of Kapoor were disappointed.
Since her debut in Ladies v Ricky Behl, she has been involved in quite a few unusual projects. As such, fans of Parineeti Chopra are excited to see how she handles this challenging role.
Many feel that Chopra is a good choice to play the role of Nehwal; that she has the intensity and range of acting skills required for the role.
After wrapping up shooting for Ribhu Dasgupta’s A Girl On the Train, Chopra is now starting shooting for Saina. Playing an athlete in a film requires significant preparation and she reportedly trained for six months for the part. Training involved hours on the badminton court with Nehwal’s coaches.
Meanwhile the ace shuttler has offered her best wishes to the actor and the filmmakers for the project.
Nehwal’s many fans are also happy that a film is being made on one of India's best ever badminton players.
A lot of fans are now are looking forward to knowing more about Saina the film starring Parineeti Chopra.
