After 12 seasons and 279 episodes, Big Bang Theory is now over; having aired its final episode on 16 May 2019. As one of the longest-running sitcoms ever and one of the highest rated TV series, fans were obviously emotional about the show finally drawing to a close. Fans on Twitter thought that the show’s final episode was the perfect end to a beloved series:
Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, Amy. Rajesh, Bernadette, Howard became characters that fans all over the world knew and loved. Saying goodbye can be tough.
Big Bang Theory was the show that made nerds and geeks cool – sort of. The show made it OK to be brilliant, socially awkward and difficult to understand.
The show made science cool too – kind of. It was also about enduring friendships that weather all of life's storms.
NASA said thanks to the BBT team for sharing their work with viewers and for inspiring so many.
It was a double-decker finale – the elevator is finally functional after 12 years. There are other exciting developments in the second and final episode of the finale as well.
Sheldon and Amy win the Nobel Prize for Physics in the end and Sheldon gives an uncharacteristically emotional speech for his friends.
Gushing about the finale as one of the best ever of any show, many fans got really emotional about the show that they loved so much never coming back with another season.
BBT has been a show that has given us many memorable characters, a madly catchy title track and many, many ‘Bazinga!’ moments.
Everyone seems to have their happy ending… except poor Rajesh Kothrapalli. He ends up alone and a lot of fans were quite annoyed with this.
While many fans were happy and satisfied with (most of) the loose ends being tied up, they didn’t like the fact that everyone did not get what they wanted; that some got what they didn’t want.
Each of the characters grew and evolved over the seasons and viewers remained emotionally invested in their lives and their journeys.
At the end of it all, Big Bang Theory remains one of the most popular shows of all time, making people laugh and cry; delighting and surprising them for an incredible 12 years!
