She is possibly the most successful crossover actor from India – playing not the stereotypical ‘Indian character’ roles but doing lead roles where her nationality or ethnicity is only incidental. Priyanka Chopra took some time off to get married and watch her new husband's shows, star in his music video and even attend the Met Gala. She is now back with the film The Sky Is Pink after a longish hiatus. The trailer starring Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim and Rohit Suresh is very promising.
The story is about Aditi (Priyanka Chopra) and Niren Chaudhary (Farhan Akhtar) and about their daughter Aisha who is diagnosed with a terminal disease.
People loved the trailer of the film which is based on the true story of Aisha Chaudhary, who had pulmonary fibrosis and who passed away in 2015. She was a motivational speaker and author of Life’s Little Epiphanies. The trailer promises a lovely story and a highly watchable, well-made film.
The movie is directed by Shonali Bose (of Margarita with a Straw fame), who was drawn to the film in large part because of the way that she lost her own son.
Chopra tweeted this to announce the trailer of the film which is co-produced by herself, Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Kilian Kerwin, Madhu Chopra.
It isn’t just the tragic but inspiring story of a young girl with a terminal illness. It is also about the complex emotional interplay between husband and wife and the various stresses that couples face and have to overcome; particularly something like the grave illness of a child.
The challenge of dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, looking after child with a terminal illness and Ishaan (Rohit Suresh who plays Aisha’s brother, a music composer) are some of the threads running through the trailer of The Sky Is Pink.
The line in the trailer about going and robbing a bank was taken rather literally by the DGP Maharashtra handle.
This line from the trailer was found to be very well suited to memes.
Chopra’s willingness to shed the glamour and play a character older than her actual years also receives appreciation.
Chopra’s return is met with a huge welcome not only from her fans but everyone who enjoys good cinema; because this is what The Sky Is Pink promises to be.
Husband Nick Jonas is apparently proud as punch of his wife's acting skills and was found to be in tears on set when watching a scene being shot. He also commented on her Instagram post about the movie that “So incredible. This movie will change lives. Very proud of you beautiful”.
The Sky Is Pink premiers at the Toronto International Film Festival and will see a theatrical release in India on 11 October 2019.
