Brahmāstra is an upcoming Hindi ‘fantasy’ film that will release by December 2019. There isn’t much that we know about the film except who the lead actors are and the fact that the first look of the film was revealed on the day of Maha Shivratri at the current Kumbh Mela.
We are introduced to the cast and the crew aboard an aircraft of some sort and given a hint of what to expect. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt the film will also star Amitabh Bachchan, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Dimple Kapadia, Divyendu Sharma, Mouni Roy, Prateik Babbar and others.
The currently ongoing Kumbh Mela at Allahabad was the venue for the unveiling of the film's first look.
In a unique first-of-its-kind event, 150 drones were used to spell out the name of the movie in the sky. Lead actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are seen in the foreground of the picture.
The film is written and directed by Ayan Mukerji (of Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani fame); who is thought to be Ranbir Kapoor’s best friend and for whom Kapoor is a muse.
Those present thought it was certainly unique, the way that the sky was lit up against a beautifully lit up riverfront.
It was the day dedicated to Lord Shiva and it was perhaps fitting that the lead pair – who will be playing the roles of Shiva and Isha – receive blessings for their venture on the day.
It is hinted that the film will be a romantic superhero film. It was announced that Brahmāstra will be the first part of a trilogy which Mukerji has worked on for several years. According to Mukerji, this is a "contemporary film with ancient elements."
The director put out this picture via his Instagram handle which was retweeted by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions handle. So clearly Brahmāstra will be yet another Dharma Productions film; makes me wonder; Johar must be a busy man! He seems to have his finger in every significant Bollywood pie there is.
