Considering the fact that many people now live life vicariously via social media; WhatsApp, Facebook & Instagram being temporarily down, would have seriously upset the lives of many. Facebook said "We're focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but confirm the issue is not related to a DDoS attack". They couldn’t access these social media platforms, share posts, pictures and so on. I didn’t notice but plenty of people did.
They could comment, like, share posts, upload pictures… they didn’t quite know what to do with their time or their phones… or themselves come to that!
They logged out, they logged in; they uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it. They rebooted the system, but nothing seemed to help!
Users were left wondering if they were the only people suffering. And they used yet another social media platform to find out the answer to their other social media questions.
A lot of people were really, really upset by their social media platforms being unavailable. It was like a cold turkey detox after a severe addiction.
So traumatised were people, that some decided to pen down their dreadful, horrifying experiences in a book!
Those who weren’t on Twitter suddenly felt that they had been unfair; that Twitter was a platform that they hadn’t perhaps given a real chance to.
For some it was like cheating on their one true love. For a lot of people, Twitter just wasn’t working for them.
At least some people were gleeful about influencers and Instagram stars who pretty much depend upon the platform for their livelihood… to say nothing of self-worth.
The outage was noticed all over the world and went on for about 8 hours. This was an interminable eternity for a lot of poor bereft souls.
People were messaging, placing complaints and basically trying everything they could to get the platforms back up and running. The pleas seemed to be falling on deaf ears, though.
Users were frustrated and angry with the social media platforms; who in their view were either incompetent or uncaring or both!
Al those people who would otherwise lie in the dark fuming at the politics of acquaintances, envying the picture perfect lives of others and ghosting exes, suddenly found they had been given the gift of time… or sleep!
