Remember Xavier? Xavier Uncle Said Something Relatable about Asian Parents

Remember this guy with the expressionless Indian uncle face (no offence to Indian uncles) and his wildly viral jokes? He goes by the name Xavier though no one is too sure whether that is his real name or even real face. In fact, there are several social media handles that use this guy’s face. So here is what Twitter handle Xavier Uncle shared about Asian parents, which really resonated with people:

Asian parent expectations

Expectations are high. It seems that this one tree grows bananas, coconuts, and jackfruit as well. Asian parents also expect a lot – often unrealistic things from their kids.

Translation

Kids have to be good at studies, extracurricular activities, and sports and look good too!

Or this

Indian mothers tend to have very high expectations too – not from their own Raja Betas – but from their hapless daughters in law.

Or this

As an adult, the kid has to be super responsible and super successful and also religious, well connected and fertile --- phew!

This, definitely this

The good Asian or rather the (sanskari) Indian child will get married to someone suitable, at the ‘right’ time and produce the requisite amounts of equally talented, successful and worthy offspring

No complaints

Problems cannot be expressed and help cannot be asked for – because that would be weakness. ‘Self-help’ and silence are the only way.

Reality?

Not sure what this tweet means. Does it mean no fruit at all? Or does it signify something more macabre with this dead tree (kids finding it difficult to deal with unrealistic parental expectations and taking extreme steps)?

Not just parents…

…But also companies. Expectations are high and employee benefits may not quite match up.

This sarcastic response

Apparently, these expectations aren't high enough – they should be even higher.

Like Sharmaji ka ladka

Asian parents certainly have high expectations, as Xavier Uncle says.  Indian parents have even higher expectations... because Sharmaji ka Ladka!
