Indian show business lives on the word “inspiration’. Not just our Bollywood movies but even our daily television soaps are drawing “inspiration” from Hollywood. We knew that a number of reality shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati was “inspired” by ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ and Dus Ka Dum was taken from ‘Power of Ten’ but do you know the daily soaps that are your favourite were also “inspired” by Hollywood?
Take a look at what’s our very own and what’s a bit of borrowed ideas.
1. Sumit Sambhal Lega
Star Plus’ show ‘Sumit Sambhal Lega’ has created a buzz after the promos came out. The show is a Hindi adaptation of the international telly show ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ by Warner Bros’.
2. Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi
This popular Ekta Kapoor show has to top the list and is a tale of boundless love. But, do you know it’s a copy of ‘Wuthering Heights’, which is a dark love story of a servant boy falling in love with the master’s daughter.
3. Kumkum Bhagya
This is another Balaji Telefilms’ show that has been inspired by an English show. This hit daily soap is apparently a ripped off version of ‘Sense and Sensibility’.
4. Khatron Ke Khiladi
‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ was initially launched as Fear Factor, the original name of the series which inspired the show. After few seasons the makers changed the name to ‘Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi’.
5. Comedy Nights With Kapil
If you thought Kapil Sharma’s popular stand-up comedy show is one of the best shows on TV, then think again. The concept of the show has a lot of similarity to ‘Kumars at No. 42′, a British TV show, which by the way is much classier and funnier than what Kapil does.
6. Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin
Mona Singh aka Jassi became a household name after the success of this telly show. It was an Indian adaptation of ‘Ugly Betty’.
7. Ek Hasina Thi
Sanjeeda Khan’s ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ may have started off well but failed to impress the audience in the long run. We hear that it was a copy of an American TV series, ‘Revenge’.
