At first, I thought the trend had to do with Akshay Kumar – after all, he's been in films such as Rowdy Rathore and Baby. Turns out the #RowdyBaby hashtag was to do with a Tamil song of the same name. This song crossed one billion views on YouTube. To put this in context, only a couple of hundred YouTube videos have over one billion views, and there is not a single Bollywood song to cross this mark. The first-ever video to touch the magic number was the song by the Korean rapper Psy, Gangnam Style.
That is a catchy song, no doubt. I may not understand a word except for the occasional English phrase, but I enjoyed the song and Prabhu Deva’s fun and energetic choreography.
This is the first South Indian song to reach one billion views. Not too many Indian songs have managed this previously.
Produced by and starring Dhanush, the film also stars Sai Pallavi. The song was originally released in January 2019, and has now crossed the one billion mark. Fans are obviously delighted.
The song crossed the one billion mark on the eight anniversary of the release of another iconic South Indian song – Why this Kolaveri Di.
Kolaveri Di is arguably one of the most internationally successful of Indian songs with numerous other videos based on this song being made.
Remember what a craze this song was? Gangnam Style was the first YouTube video to cross a billion views.
Released in March2014, this song from Chuchu TV has a staggering 3.2 billion views. Apparently simple alphabet songs with rudimentary animation are what we like most. In fact some of the top viewed Indian videos on YouTube happen to be kiddie videos.
Laung Laachi is the title song of the Punjabi movie of the same name. This is the only Indian film song to be in the one billion views club.
The song is composed by Tanishk Bagchi with lyrics by Arafat Mehmood, performed by Dhvani Bhanushali and Nikhil D'Souza. Within a week of its release, the video had over 50 million views and crossed the billion-mark more recently.
The Luis Fonsi - Despacito version ft. Daddy Yankee is the most-watched non-kiddie YouTube song. With 7 billion + views, it is the second most-watched video in the world.
Baby Shark Dance is the No 1 video in the world with 7.1 billion views. Rowdy Baby has a creditable one billion views but it has a long way to go before it catches up.
