Like literally a million other Indian kids, Maggi was the first ‘meal’ I ever cooked. It is cheap, easy and quick to make and addictively appealing to the Indian palate. I have heard of hostel kids eating uncooked Maggi --- like a dry snack and that I thought was bad enough --- until came across the concept of sweet Maggi – which to my mind was just so very, very wrong!
It makes the eyes widen with horror right from the get go. They use milk instead of water, then proceed to put rose petals, kewda essence, and some condensed milk to it. I managed not to throw up, but only just.
They had the same response to this bilious dish as me, but they were rather more graphic about expressing their views.
Most of us find our faces taking on that horrified expression as we watch that video – exactly like that!
According to some, there is a special place in hell for people who do such things as dream up sweet Maggi.
While others were outraged that Maggi was being ‘molested’ this commentator was concerned about other technicalities of Maggi-making.
The recipe involves some sort of condensed milk, and some commentators were of the view that the recipe creator should somehow be restricted from further misuse of said product.
Some had no problem with others doing unmentionable things to Maggi. They just wanted the unused masala packets.
This meme featuring Amitabh Bachchan in Sooryavansham; puking out blood after eating poisoned kheer – this one fits almost too well.
Sentiments were hurt – it was just a Maggi recipe, but sentiments were hurt!
Some people were offended enough to make a list of IPC sections that would apply in this ‘crime’.
This commentator wasn’t as horrified as the others. He thought that this Maggi could be like a dessert to be had after regular Maggi.
It’s just kheer, with Maggi instead of vermicelli said this commentator. Get over it!
Some brave people said that they would be trying out the gross new sweet rose Maggi recipe. However, most were like this guy --- loosely translated, saying oh my eyes – what did I just see!
