Last evening, I saw that the Captain Marvel trailer has been released on YouTube. I called up my daughters with the news and they raced home immediately from the playground; they then proceeded to watch the trailer about 6 times on the trot.
The DC universe gave us a seriously badass female superhero in Wonder Woman and in many ways the movie was responsible for the mainstreaming of superhero films. And then Black Panther happened; people hitherto indifferent to these films become quite invested in this film genre. By the time Avengers Infinity War came around, the interest was positively avid. Now enter Captain Marvel!
So when the first standalone female superhero film from Marvel came along; the Captain Marvel trailer received the expected ardent reception.
So this is a super whose real name is Carol Danvers and in the movie she is played by Brie Larson. Her superpowers include super strength, the ability to fly, resist damage, absorb and channel energy.
We hear Samuel L Jackson’s voiceover as the trailer starts. Enter Captain Marvel from somewhere above; “it’s difficult to explain” she says later.
Soon see the man behind the voice so we know Nick Fury (a sort of manager for the Avengers, as I explain it to myself) is going to be around for this movie as well.
Briefly, we see Jude Law with eerie yellow eyes in the trailer. It is widely believed that he will play the original Captain Mar-vell (the Kree humanoid from whom Captain Marvel is supposed to have got her powers), though there is also some conjecture that he will play the bad guy.
This is also a Captain Marvel but this is a guy and he is from the DC Universe and he is sort of a funny super. He is also known as Shazam for some reason. Keep up folks!
So who is the more badass female superhero? DC fans say Wonder Woman, Marvel fans say Captain Marvel. I say patay-to --- pa-tato.
The Avengers Infinity War super villain Thanos now has reason to be very, very scared feel some Marvel fans.
So there is a perfectly sweet looking old lady aboard a bus or a train or some sort of public transport. And Captain Marvel just comes and punches the daylights out of the harmless looking little thing!
Skrull are the bad guys – they are described as “extraterrestrial shapeshifters” looking to invade earth. The little old lady is clearly a skrull and Captian Marvel saw through the disguise, experts have opined. And this seems to sets things up for yet another American superhero saving the world from unspeakable destruction from some inimical ETs? Seems like it.
Excited to watch Captain Marvel? Well, don’t hold your breath. The movie releases only in March 2019.
Within moments of the trailer dropping, these videos were doing the rounds: examining, analysing, dissecting and extrapolating. Here is one of those trailer-breakdown/ easter eggs videos. Enjoy!
