If ever there was a band for teeny boppers, it was the Jonas Brothers – trio of fresh-faced young men - brothers - who gained rapid fame and success after they banded together in 2005. Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas’s group was nominated for the best new artist Grammy, won several other awards and sold 17 million albums worldwide.
The trio, that became famous for their music and the Disney Channel series Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream, broke up in 2013. The three are now reunited
Their music was unabashedly pop; it was meant to appeal to the adoring teen fan base. The cheesy, not hugely original lyrics won them a vast legion of adoring fans.
When the band split up, citing creative differences, many were heartbroken. But a lot of the diehard fans continued to adore their idols from afar and in the hope of a possible reunion.
Remember Hanson? The bunch of kids that made MMMBop? No? That’s OK, most humans on earth didn’t know very much about the Jonas brothers either.
When fans heard rumours that the Jonas brothers would be reuniting; some cried tears of joy – literally, apparently
On 1st March 2019, the boys announced their long anticipated reunion with their new single Sucker. When I heard the song first, I thought to myself ‘instant hit’; this is the quintessential pop song made for the charts.
The video features the significant others of each of the three men; including Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Turner (who plays Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones) who will be marrying Joe Jonas later this year. It’s a self-indulgent, freaky, funny, features outlandish outfits but is generally enjoyable. The 62 million + views in less than two weeks after release were not unexpected.
A lot of the Tweeple pointed out the resemblance between Hum Saath Saath Hain and Sucker: three couples each devoted to their partner; doing stuff together…
They decided to overlay the Sucker video with the Hum Saath Saath Hain track and it fit altogether too well!
They are older, arguably better looking and clearly have better stylists. Fans are falling for the three yet again.
Now people who imagine themselves to have discerning taste in music (musical snobs such as me) may pour scorn over the poppy musical feints of the trio but their music is insidiously likeable. The three men; even more so… as this car Karaoke with James Corden proves.
