Akshat Verma, the writer of Delhi Belly, is back with a hilarious spin at Mahabharata and it could not be funnier! Titled as 'Mama's Boys', the plot of this 16 minute-long short film is a modern take on the epic Mahabharata. Featuring Neena Gupta, Arunoday Singh, Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Vivaan Shah among others, it is a funny yet true depiction of the modern day household drama on many levels.
Bhima and Hidimbiare, both are shown to be gym-obsessed guys who absolutely love protein shakes while working out at the gym. Nakul and Sahdev are shown to be the modern day fashion designers who are seen hiding their sexuality from their mother, Kunti.
While Neena Gupta (playing Kunti) echoes the Punjabi mother who just loves her 'mundas' too much, the character of Draupadi is the most manipulative one! The choices made by Draupadi, in the short film, serves nobody but herself. Further, she employs every feminine wile that she has to turn the tables around.
Aditi Rao Hydari has a lot to say about this modern take on the Mahabharata. She rightly puts it as, Mama's Boys turn things "upside down or right side up."
Moreover, 'Mama's Boys' also feature Razak Khan and sadly it is the last time we will see Razak Khan since he passed away in June 2016. He ensembles as Shakuni Mama in this short film.
